Terms of Service
Last updated: June 15, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Skill Atlas (the "Service"), an independent project operated by an individual developer. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Skill Atlas helps you turn a learning direction into an explorable skill atlas with the help of large-language-model (LLM) providers. The Service is currently in active development; features, limits, and pricing may change.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your jurisdiction) to use the Service.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your credentials confidential.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
3. Subscriptions, credits, and BYOK
- Subscriptions. Paid plans grant a monthly allowance of credits and are billed in advance on a recurring basis through Paddle, our payment provider. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.
- Credit Packs. One-time purchases that add credits to your balance. Credits purchased this way do not expire.
- BYOK (Bring Your Own Key). A one-time unlock that lets you connect your own API key from a supported provider. Requests made under BYOK do not consume Skill Atlas credits but will incur charges from your chosen provider directly.
- Cancellation and refunds. See our Refund Policy.
- Taxes. Prices are exclusive of taxes unless stated otherwise. Where required by law, applicable taxes are added at checkout by Paddle.
4. AI output
Responses are generated by third-party large-language-model providers (the providers we currently rely on are listed in our Privacy Policy, or any provider you connect via BYOK). They are produced by statistical models and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. You are responsible for verifying any output before relying on it. The Service is not a substitute for professional advice (medical, legal, financial, or otherwise).
As between you and Skill Atlas, you own the prompts you submit and, to the extent permitted by the underlying provider, the output generated for you. We do not claim ownership of your content.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right.
- Generate or distribute content that is sexually explicit, sexualises minors, depicts non-consensual acts, or otherwise constitutes child sexual abuse material.
- Generate or distribute content that incites violence, hatred, or harassment against people based on protected characteristics.
- Plan, facilitate, or instruct on the creation of weapons, dangerous substances, or attacks on critical infrastructure.
- Impersonate another person, misrepresent your affiliation, or generate political disinformation at scale.
- Attempt to extract another user's data, reverse-engineer the Service, scrape it at a scale that affects availability, or interfere with its security.
- Re-sell, re-host, or expose the Service as a generic AI proxy to third parties.
- Violate the usage policies of the upstream LLM providers we rely on, including any provider listed in our Privacy Policy or used through BYOK.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, and we may report unlawful content to the relevant authorities.
6. Your content and license
You retain ownership of the content you submit or create on the Service. To operate the Service we need a limited license: you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and display your content solely as necessary to provide the Service to you. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to the retention rules in our Privacy Policy.
7. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, and trademarks, is owned by the operator of Skill Atlas and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
8. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers — authentication, database and storage, Paddle for payments, and the LLM providers listed in our Privacy Policy. Their terms and privacy policies apply to their portions of the experience. We are not responsible for outages, errors, or content originating from these third parties.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any AI output will be accurate.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will the operator of Skill Atlas be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD 50.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of Skill Atlas from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if your account creates risk for the Service or other users, or if we are required to do so by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including 4, 9–11, 13, and 15) will survive.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the operator of Skill Atlas resides, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by the competent courts of that jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, give notice through the Service. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance.
